Grymsdyke Farm presents: Reading Design At Grymsdyke Farm, we prioritise learning through process and making. We design by directly engaging with material transformation. By observing the processes of design production, we allow the processes to be readable in the outcome. Over the summer of 2024, we are organising a design workshop led by four designer educators using four different materials and processes. Each week-long workshop residency will include developing designs with tutors, guided walks to study and understand the landscape, fostering site specific and process driven design responses, and talks and discussions around the dinner table and in the workshops. Each phase is individually tailored based on the material and industry local to the farm chosen by the invited design tutor. The goal is to interrogate not only the processes of learning through design but also how we learn from each other, from the environment, and through making. This workshop is about design products driven by processes, because of and in spite of them, as long as they are written in the outcome. How we make is as critical as what we make. Reading design highlights the relationship between how we make and the tangible references of what is made. We endeavour to read into design what can be read. The outcome of the workshop will be exhibited at London Design Festival 2024’s Brompton District. Workshops dates at Grymsdyke Farm: 8–14 July 2024 Marco Campardo (Glass) 15–21 July 2024 Glithero (Plaster) 22–28 July 2024 Attua Aparicio (Clay) 29 July – 4 August 2024 Guan Lee (Metal)
