Every landscape conceals architecture. Every object reveals one.
Goldsmith Josef Koppmann presents Hidden Landscapes: The Architecture Within, an exhibition exploring the hidden relationships between geology, architecture and the human body. Inspired by structures, natural formations and the extraordinary worlds concealed within gemstones, Josef creates sculptural jewellery that transforms inner worlds into objects of intimate scale.
At the heart of the exhibition is the belief that every material holds an unseen structure waiting to be discovered. Quartz reveals intricate networks of golden rutile, opal unveils ever changing landscapes of light, precious metals record the marks of making, and sculptural forms emerge through the dialogue between contrasting materials. Silver and gold, roughness and refinement, permanence and transformation are not presented as opposites, but as complementary forces that give each piece its character.
Presented in Josef Koppmann's gallery and studio at Oxo Tower Wharf, the exhibition offers visitors opportunity to experience the creative process behind each piece. Alongside the finished jewellery, tools, gemstones and works in progress reveal how ideas evolve from raw material to sculptural object, inviting a deeper appreciation of craftsmanship, materiality and making.
Rather than viewing jewellery simply as adornment, Hidden Landscapes encourages visitors to look beneath the surface and discover the hidden structures within nature, the built environment and the objects we choose to wear.
