Lyon & Turnbull are pleased to present Making a Mark: an exhibition celebrating the remarkable collection that Helen Cargill Thompson amassed and then bequeathed to The Glasgow School of Art (GSA).

Staged as part of London Design Festival, and part of the Mayfair Design District celebrations, this week-long exhibition showcases contemporary silver and metalwork by leading makers who challenge and expand the creative boundaries of the medium such as Vicki Ambery-Smith and Rebecca Joselyn. Helen Cargill Thompson’s longstanding interest in contemporary craft and support of graduating students of the GSA is central to this collection. The exhibition features a range of GSA alumni, from Karen Wallace, known for her intricate hand engraving, to Andrew Fleming, whose work draws inspiration from the architectural details of his native Glasgow. Tutors who have shaped the next generation of makers are also represented, including sculptural jewellery by Jack Cunningham and contemporary designs by Anna Gordon, current Programme Leader in Silversmithing & Jewellery Design at the GSA. Making a Mark explores the expressive possibilities of silver, its lustre, form, and symbolism, through works that reflect innovation, craftsmanship and individual artistic vision. From sculptural objects to functional design, the exhibition invites visitors to rediscover silver as a material rooted in tradition yet constantly redefined through contemporary practice. Within the exhibition, we are delighted to host a series of events, including Meet the Maker: Vicki Ambery-Smith on Thursday 18 September, 13:00 - 14:00. Proud members of the Contemporary British Silversmiths.
