#Unofficial_Observatory

Unofficial Observatory presents Nowhere, Now Here, bringing together 11 Asian artists and designers whose works explore identity and belonging through visual and design practices.

Inspired by the Buddhist notion “Pratītyasamutpāda Śūnyatā” that all things arise through interdependence and hold no fixed essence, the exhibition centres on the experiences of “cultural nomads” — designers and artists whose lives are marked by displacement, hybridity, and fluid selfhood. Rather than asking “Where are you from?”, it asks “What are you moving through?” — creating a space of reflection, care, and embodied storytelling. Spanning painting, sculpture, printmaking, speculative design, illustration, and installation, this exhibition reflects a wide range of artistic languages and cultural perspectives. Each artist responds to the concept of ”moving through” based on their own positionality, navigating in-betweenness, living through transition, and asking without needing to answer. Nowhere, Now Here is as much about the artworks as it is about the unlikely gathering of artists — from different places, disciplines, and histories — who find themselves in a soft landing, here in London, in dialogue. Artists: Amanda Thedrica, Iris Yi-Tyng Lin, James Lang, Kuan-Yu Chou, Ludi Huang, Nohana Sayama, Quail Wang, Sylvia Liu, Yat Sze Ashley Lo, Yu Sun, Yuti Lee
