Discover a world of creativity and craftsmanship at the "On The Shelf" events, a series of workshops held at the "Off The Shelf" Pavilion during the London Design Festival. Join us to explore innovative and traditional techniques all guided by leading artists and designers.
The "Off The Shelf" Pavilion at Olympia, will be hosting "On The Shelf", a series, featuring a diverse lineup of hands-on workshops and events led by renowned artists and designers. These sessions offer participants a unique opportunity to delve into creative practices, ranging from traditional craftsmanship to cutting-edge design techniques, all within the Pavilion’s architecturally inspiring environment. The series kicks off on Saturday, September 14th with the Plant Sculpture Workshop by Cynthia Fan and Ensō House, where participants will craft plant-based sculptures under the guidance of Cynthia Fan, an artist and plant scientist. Sunday, September 15th brings the On The Shelf: Rio Kobayashi and Hato Press Zine Launch, a preview event showcasing the Pavilion alongside the launch of a new zine by Rio Kobayashi in collaboration with Hato Press. On Saturday, September 21st, the Swiss Hand Broom Workshop by Flavia Brändle invites participants to learn the Ybrig knot, a traditional binding technique, and create their own handmade brush. Later that day, Studio Sanne Visser leads a session on Rope Making for Stop Stones, where traditional rope-making is combined with the use of Portland Limestone. The series concludes on Sunday, September 22nd with a double-bill event: Sketching Structures with Steve Webb and Urban Stone Sampling with Liang-Jung Chen. Participants can either explore the Pavilion’s design through sketching or engage in stone rubbing to create impressions of the Portland Limestone used in the Pavilion. Each workshop is designed to be inclusive and accessible, welcoming participants of all skill levels. The Pavilion, located at the Olympia Motorail Car Park in London, offers a fully accessible and welcoming space. Workshops take place outdoors but under cover, so warm clothing is recommended. If you're unable to attend, please cancel your ticket to free up space for others. The regeneration of Olympia is one of the most ambitious projects in London. Built as an events and exhibitions venue almost 140 years ago, it will soon become a new destination celebrating creativity in all its forms, from theatre and music to education and business. Join us at the Off The Shelf Pavilion at Olympia to immerse yourself in creativity, craftsmanship, and design during this exciting series of events. https://www.eventbrite.com/cc/olympia-x-london-design-festival-3612489
