This London Design Festival, POW Workshops invites you to discover the joy of hands-on making with our weekend program of traditional craft workshops and cutting-edge fabrication experiences.

Join us at POW Workshops this London Design Festival for an inspiring weekend of hands-on making in our 6000sqft makerspace in Park Royal. As a not-for-profit open workshop, POW exists to give everyone the chance to make it – whether you're a complete beginner or looking to develop new skills. Located in London's industrial heartland, our fully equipped workshop features professional woodworking and metalworking machines, CNC fabrication, laser-cutting capabilities, and a dedicated spray room. This LDF weekend, we're opening our doors with a special program of workshops and drop-in sessions designed to showcase traditional craft skills alongside cutting-edge digital fabrication. WEEKEND WORKSHOP PROGRAM INTRO TO WELDING with Phil Webb Step into the world of metalworking with this beginner-friendly introduction to welding. Phil will teach you essential safety procedures, proper equipment handling, and fundamental welding techniques in our dedicated metalworking area. Learn to join metal pieces using professional welding equipment while understanding the principles behind this essential making skill. Small class sizes ensure personalised attention and safe learning. JOINERY EXPERIENCE with Alex Cunningham Discover the fundamentals of traditional woodworking in these hands-on sessions. Learn to work safely with sharp tools, use chisels and saws correctly, and create time-honoured joints including halvings, mortice & tenons, and dovetails. Alex will guide you through measuring and cutting with precision, understanding wood structure, and fixing joints with glue and clamps. Perfect for beginners wanting to experience the satisfaction of traditional craftsmanship. BOOKBINDING with Kate Grimes Join Kate Grimes, a jeweller turned bookbinder, to uncover the secrets of creating your very own double pamphlet book complete with a sewn-in cover. Throughout the class, you will familiarise yourself with paper grain direction, craft your unique sewing pattern, precisely measure cover paper, and bind your book using the five-hole technique. Take home a finished book and the skills to continue making handmade gifts. MAKE A SERVING BOARD with Sean Rodrigo Create a beautiful, functional serving board using traditional woodworking techniques combined with our professional workshop equipment. Learn essential skills in measuring, cutting, shaping, and finishing while crafting something you'll treasure for years to come.
