This transparently named project is an exhibition of 3,000 miniature pots created by SGW Lab, a London-based ceramics studio led by ceramics designer Yuta Segawa.
I started making miniature pots in earnest in 2011. It would be a long story to write about how I arrived at miniature pots, so I won't go into it here, but I see my work as a continuation of the Gustavberg artists Wilhelm Kåge, Stig Lindberg and Berndt Friberg. They created each piece with various innovations in wheel-throwing techniques and decoration. One of the things I thought of as the remaining room for their work was to develop it into large-scale installations. When I started making miniature pots, I thought that because they were small, it seemed intuitive to display many of them together. It seemed to me that each pot, in a range of different shapes and colours, represented a different culture, as there is a long history of making a variety of pots in regions around the world. Combined with Morris's ideas, this also became an expression of the repetition of daily labour. I am responsible for all the wheel throwing and trimming of the miniatures. It took me 10 years to develop my own skills and build my team, not only for production but also for marketing and sales. Thirteen years after I started making miniatures, I am finally ready to present my first large installation: Project 3000. Statement by Yuta Segawa
