In a project that spanned more than two years, 24 international architects and designers were invited to explore the potential of Portuguese marble and limestone at the Design Museum.
The exhibition included objects intended for public use such as seating by Eduardo Souto de Moura and a slide by Alejandro Aravena; graphic pieces by Sagmeister and Walsh; and a series of domestic objects by Michael Anastassiades and Jasper Morrison. The project was an exploration of the qualities of stone, and the technical means through which it is cut and shaped - the natural formation of stone over millions of years produces patterns and textures that are unique and unrepeatable. The items reflected small moments of monumentality that demonstrated the solidity and permanence of an elemental material. Set in Stone included works by Alejandro Aravena, Eduardo Souto de Moura, ELEMENTAL, Jasper Morrison, Jorge Silva, Michael Anastassiades, Paulo David, Sagmeister and Walsh and Peter Saville. Supported by primeirapedra.
