Space in Between

Space in Between brings together two Taiwanese artists whose textile-based practices explore how making can become a way of perceiving, interpreting and connecting with the world. Through different approaches to fibre, both artists reconsider familiar methods of making—not simply as craft techniques, but as ways of observing, translating and responding to lived experience. Rather than treating textile as a finished object, the exhibition presents material as an active participant in the creative process. Wool, thread and natural dyes become more than materials; they become tools for recording encounters, questioning conventions and exploring new relationships between body, landscape and memory. One artist creates tactile landscapes using naturally dyed wool, translating experiences of place into material compositions inspired by the idea of Field Notes. Through colour, texture and form, these works invite visitors to experience landscapes not only through sight, but also through touch, imagination and embodied perception. The other artist reinterprets the language of weaving and embroidery by deconstructing conventional textile structures. Through experimentation with thread, surface and construction, familiar techniques are transformed into new spatial possibilities, expanding the relationship between line, plane and material. Although their practices begin from different perspectives, both artists share an interest in reimagining how textile can communicate experience. Their works reveal making as a process of exploration rather than reproduction—where traditional knowledge, contemporary experimentation and personal observation continuously inform one another. Space in Between invites visitors to slow down and notice the often-overlooked spaces where transformation occurs: between landscape and material, structure and intuition, technique and experimentation. Within these subtle intervals, making becomes a way of sensing the world and discovering new possibilities for connection.
