Experience "The Abney Effect" at WAX Atelier Labs—a series of installations and activations showcasing the potential of tree-derived materials like oils, waxes, resins, fibres, and dyes.
Our parks, and specifically the trees within them, serve as vital community gathering spaces, uniting individuals through a shared appreciation for nature. Ten designers will present tools, material samples, and objects demonstrating the transformative qualities of these materials, all harvested without felling trees. Curated by Company, Place and situated in WAX Atelier’s open studio within the newly renovated Abney Park, one of London's 'Magnificent Seven' garden cemeteries, this project draws its name from Sir William de Wiveleslie Abney's light theory, which explored how varying levels of white light saturation alter our perception of colour. This immersive experience celebrates the dynamic interplay between materials, their sources, and their potential outcomes, offering visitors a new perspective and a deeper understanding of the significance of local materials in contemporary design and craft. Supported by the British Council, Hackney Council, and Abney Park Trust.
