An exhibition of idiosyncratic and spirited design, featuring products from Toogood, Erwan Bouroullec and Joe Armitage, alongside the new SCP Collection of sustainable upholstery by George Sowden, Philippe Malouin, Wilkinson & Rivera, Matthew Hilton and Terence Woodgate (along with design residencies from Daniel Eatock

Join SCP to celebrate idiosyncratic and spirited design, in an exhibition entitled The Heart of the Matter, featuring UK launch of the Gummy chair by Toogood, a new lounge chair by Erwan Bouroullec for Raawii, lighting designs from Joe Armitage, alongside the preview of the new SCP Collection, with sustainable upholstery designs from George Sowden, Philippe Malouin, Wilkinson & Rivera, Matthew Hilton and Terence Woodgate. Accompanying the exhibition are two in-house Design Residencies, by artist Daniel Eatock and design duo Sons of Beasley, both have fully functioning workshops, where they will develop serially produced items for sale. SCP has been the unofficial epicentre of the product and furniture design scene in east London for the last four decades. Recognised for a sustainable approach to making furniture and a nuanced approach to sourcing product, SCP is headquartered over three-floors in a former 19th century furniture manufacturer and warehouse on Curtain Road in Shoreditch, and have their own specialist upholstery factory nestled in the flatlands of Norfolk. Each year, for the occasion of the London Design Festival, SCP opens up all three floors of their Shoreditch Showroom to showcase new work. This year’s event, The Heart of the Matter, reflects the changing priorities of designers and makers, who have a renewed interest in hand-made, small batch production manufacturing methods, while also prioritising the use of strictly natural materials. The introduction of the Design Residencies programme allows SCP to provide a platform for live-making and discourse, while providing visitors with unique insights into how good ideas take on physical form. “A single feat of daring can alter the whole conception of what is possible.” Graham Greene, The Heart of the Matter
