Discover the Turning Earth Leyton Ceramics Market: over 80 makers, live music, street food, and hands-on workshops, all celebrating the vibrant local creative community as part of the William Morris Design Line for London Design Festival 2025.

Step into a world of creativity at the Turning Earth Leyton Ceramics Market, a highlight of the William Morris Design Line for London Design Festival 2025. Taking place on 20 and 21 September, this two-day celebration brings together more than 80 talented ceramicists and makers, each showcasing their unique handmade creations in the heart of Argall Avenue. Whether you are a collector, a curious newcomer, or simply looking for a vibrant day out, the market offers something for everyone. Browse a wide range of ceramics, from functional homeware to sculptural statement pieces, and discover the individual stories and techniques behind each maker’s work. There will be live pottery throwing demonstrations throughout the weekend, offering a fascinating insight into the skill and passion that goes into every piece. Enjoy the lively festival atmosphere with live music and delicious street food available each day. Meet the makers, ask questions about their processes, and find one-of-a-kind pieces to take home. The market is a true celebration of London’s thriving ceramics scene and the creative community that calls Leyton home. On Sunday, visitors have the rare opportunity to get hands-on with two special workshops. Acclaimed ceramicist Hanna Salomonsson will lead a session on hand-building intricate ceramic flowers, perfect for those keen to learn a new skill or develop their practice. Senior teacher Ben Sutton will run two raku-style firings, where participants can glaze a pre-made vase, fire it, and take home their finished piece at the end of the session. Spaces for these workshops are limited and booking is essential; full details and booking links are available on the Turning Earth website. The whole neighbourhood will be buzzing with activity across the weekend. On Saturday, the charity Furnishing Futures will open the doors of its warehouse to showcase how discarded items are transformed into beautifully designed spaces for women and children recovering from domestic abuse. On Sunday, Suite Comfort 2024 will demonstrate the intricate craft of restoring vintage seating, from stripping away old materials to rebuilding each layer with care. Turning Earth is London’s largest co-work ceramics studio, now spanning three hobbyist studios across the city and welcoming hundreds of members and students each week. Inspired by the values of the Arts and Crafts movement, Turning Earth encourages everyone to get involved in making, supporting a more sustainable and meaningful approach to craft. Dogs are welcome at the market (on a lead), so bring your four-legged friend and enjoy the creative energy of Argall Avenue together.
